Year of Mercy, Holy Door

Year of Mercy, Holy Door in Mount Saint Joseph Abbey.

Pope Francis has announced a Year of Mercy to begin on 8 December 2015 and conclude on 20 November 2016.  This Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy will be a moment of true grace for all Christians and a re-awakening to continue along the path of the new evangelization and pastoral conversion.

For the first time in the history of Jubilee Years in the Church, this one offers the possibility for individual dioceses around the world to take part in the event by opening their own Holy Door, or Door of Mercy, in a cathedral, or church or at a shrine that is popular with pilgrims. The Diocese of Killaloe has designed one of the doors of Mount St Joseph Abbey Church as a Door of Mercy.

The Door of Mercy at Mount St Joseph will be opened by Fr Desmond Hillery, Administrator of the Diocese of Killaloe, during the 10.30 Mass on Sunday 13th December in the presence of the monks, students, staff and neighbours of Mt St Joseph.

“[Mercy] is a wellspring of joy, serenity, and peace. Our salvation depends on it.”

Pope Francis Misericordiae Vultus, Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, 11 April 2015
